Sunday Morning Servers

Sunday Morning Servers are individuals who give their time and talent to make each weekly Eucharist a transformative and beautiful event.  Although their gifts and talents are diverse, their goal is the same: to offer you a space each week to come and meet God in the Eucharist.

If you would like to be a part of these ministries, please speak with the Rector and he will help you make the right connection with the appropriate ministry leaders.
The primary role of the usher is to warmly and enthusiastically welcome all people who enter into Saint James.  They also hand out bulletins, assist guests with any questions, collect and bring the offering, direct people during communion, and perform quick clean up of the church after services.
The role of the reader is to publicly proclaim the Word of the Lord to the congregation at each service.  Two lessons are read each Sunday – one Old Testament reading and the other a New Testament reading.  The role of intercessor is to lead the prayers of the people, which the congregation reads portions as well.
The primary role of the acolyte is to assist in the proclamation of the Gospel by serving the priest during the services.  Acolytes light the altar candles before services begin, process in carrying the candles and the cross, present the offerings and gifts of bread and wine give by the congregation, help set the altar during communion, and process out of the church with the candles and cross.
The primary role of the altar guild is to care for the physical objects of worship which God has entrusted to us.  Altar guild members prepare and clean church vestments, altar linens, altar frontals, and silver ware used during the services.  If you would like to be part of the Altar Guild please speak with Shirley Banbury or Diana Julian.
