Donald Frye

The Reverend Donald Frye has been at Saint James since July 2008 and loves serving the people of Saint James parish.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Fr. Don moved to Chicago in 1990 for a six month job assignment having moved from New York City where he served two years as an urban missionary to homeless single men and women, and welfare moms and their children.  Fr. Don worked 20 years in book publishing and marketing for InterVarsity Press and the American Medical Association before being ordained to the priesthood in 2005.

Fr. Don is actively involved in the community as a member of Dundee Twp. Lions Club and Board Member of the Elgin Community Crisis Center.  He has served on the Cathedral Chapter of Saint James Cathedral, the cathedral church for the Diocese of Chicago, as well as the Chaplain to the recent Dean's Search Committee.  Fr. Don has served on the Diocesan Clergy Health Insurance committee and volunteer at Holy Family School in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago.  Fr. Don is also a Registry Chaplain at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL and a member of the Association of Professional Chaplains.

Don is passionate about seeing people connect with God and each other - both in the parish and out in the community.  His interests are diverse from reading, movies, collecting fountain pens, calligraphy, travel, cooking, and cycling.  Fr. Don and his husband, David Shallow, live in Naperville where they reside with their three Daschunds - Fritz, Owen, and Bob.

 Parish Administrator Terry Haycock has served St. James since June, 2010.  She holds a BA in English from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, an Education for Ministry Certificate from the School of Theology, University of the South, Sewanee, TN and certificates for all three levels of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. A published essayist and award-winning editor, she has served a variety of volunteer  positions in the Diocese of Chicago and is currently a parishioner at St. Michael's, Barrington, where she is a catechist, lector, Faith Reflection Group leader, member of the bell choir, Renk Ministry Partnership and Newcomers Committees and concert reception coordinator for Saint Cecelia's Guild..  She served on the rector search committee (2015-16) and has coordinated receptions honoring parish clergy.

Terry is also an English, Reading and  Business Communications tutor at Elgin Community College and a member of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa and  Arts In Bartlett..  A trained musician, she has been on the boards of the North Shore and Northwest Suburban Music Teacher's Associations and the North Shore (Chicago) and Milwaukee American Guild of Organists and has served as college chapter president, treasurer, and various poisitons in alumni chapters of Sigma Alpha Iota from whom she received the Sword of Honor leadership award..
