Confirmation and Reception

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.

Those baptized in other Christian traditions who come to the Episcopal Church are asked to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism in the presence of the bishop and to receive the laying on of hands

Young people, ages 13 through High School, participate in a Confirmation Class led by our Priest and Youth Leader. Adults who wish to be confirmed or received into this tradition usually participate in the Inquirers' Class.

Those persons who have been prepared for Confirmation and Reception attend a service with the Bishop during their visitation to Saint James parish.  If we do not have a visitation by the Bishop then persons will attend a confirmation service at a deanery meeting or at Saint James Cathedral in Chicago.
